Posted in English III at 1:06 pm by

Due: On or before Thursday, 12/1

The purpose of this project is to use your creativity to show your understanding of Poe’s allegory in “The Masque of the Red Death.” The finished product will exhibit your accurate interpretation of the story as well as your extension of Poe’s symbolism in your own creative representation. BE CREATIVE! BE IMAGINATIVE! That’s what Romanticism is all about.

The parameters of the assignment: There really are none in terms of WHAT you produce. See handout distributed in class for suggestions. Email me with questions.

Your grade will be based on:

2. inclusion of at least one aspect of Poe’s allegory

3.  relevance to “The Masque of the Red Death”

The quiz tomorrow will cover:

  • Comprehension – there will be several questions to test your understanding of the events that take place in the opening scene of the play. There will also be questions to test your understanding of the main characters as they were portrayed through dialog of the play and through Miller’s descriptions of them.
  • Vocabulary – Five of the words on page 131 of your test will be tested.
  • Short Answer, Explain why things happen – You will have to show your understanding on a higher level than just repeating what happens.
  • Extended Response, Applying concepts – Remember that there is a “big picture” here. Miller has a purpose. Knowing that purpose….apply it to the events of the play.
